The 2011 Malaysia Premier League (also known as Astro Liga Super Malaysia 2011 in Malay and the Astro Premier League Malaysia due to the sponsorship from Astro) is the 8th season of the Premier League Malaysia since its rebranding from the previous format.

The league is currently the second-level football league of Malaysia. The season began on 31 January 2011, and will conclude on 29 July 2011. Felda United FC are the 2010 Malaysia Premier League champions and currently play in the top flight of Malaysian football, Malaysia Super League.

PKNS FC clinched the 2011 Premier League title on 20 May 2011, and first promotion spot to Super League, with a 2-0 win over Johor FA. The win gave them a 12-point unassailable lead over their nearest challenger, Sarawak FA with 3 games remaining.[1][2] Sarawak themselves secured the second promotion spot after the 4-1 win over USM FC on 23 May 2011, gaining an 8-point unassailable difference over nearest rivals Sime Darby FC with 2 games remaining. [3]

At the other end of the table, 2 Penang teams Sinar Dimaja Mai Sarah FC and Penang FA confirms their status as two last-placed teams in Premier League, which relegates them to 2012 FAM Cup competition, subject to confirmation from FAM.

Teams

A total of twelve teams will contest the league, including eight sides from the 2010 Malaysia Premier League season, two newly promoted teams from 2010 FAM Cup League and two relegated teams from the 2010 Malaysia Super League season.

Johor FA and Penang FA were relegated from 2010 Malaysia Premier League after finishing the season in the bottom two places of the league table. There was a plan to merge Johor FA and Johor FC so that Johor FA can still compete at the Malaysia's top league, Malaysia Super League. The plan was drop due to unknown reason.

2010 FAM Cup League Malaysia champions Sime Darby FC and runners-up Sinar Dimaja Mai Sarah FC secured direct promotion to the Malaysia Premier League.

Nike has produced a new match ball, named the T90 Tracer, which will be electric blue, black and white and also a high-visibility version in yellow. Additionally, Lotto will provide officials with new kits in black, yellow, and red for the season.
